The Golden Steer, Hornbein & White
It was sad to hear about the recent passing of Edward D. White, Jr., FAIA (April 29, 2017). While browsing through a Hornbein & White brochure in Denver Public Library collection, I ran across these restaurant sketches.
Hornbein & White were known for progressive, “Usonian” architecture, realized locally in residences, medical buildings, libraries, and of course, the Boettcher Memorial Tropical Conservatory at Denver Botanic Gardens. I was a bit shocked to see these wonderful sketches bound into the the back of the firm’s brochure.
The Golden Steer was built at Kipling and 26th in the Paramount Shopping Center in 1964. This Hornbein & White design, however, was not the one used. We’ll have much more on Hornbein & White in the near future.
